Work with Coins

Familiarize students with counting and recognizing different coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters) and their values through interactive coin-counting activities using virtual manipulatives.

Coin Names and Value

Use this activity to evaluate student knowledge of both coin names and coin value for the front of US coins. Students simply draw a line to connect the coin to the correct value and the correct name.

Pay with Coins

In this coin identification project, students drag coins to pay for objects they might find at a school fair. No addition is necessary.

Make a Coin Caterpillar

Students drag the coins to create a coin caterpillar. Students count the number of each coin and the total amount of money. Students can use the paint tools to add details. Thanks to Debbie Tannenbaum for sharing this template.

Dollar Challenge

Challenge students to make $1.00 in four different ways. Students dragged the cloned coins at the bottom of the page to the different boxes to show their answers.

Using Money

In this multi-page project, students demonstrate their understanding of the value of coins up to one dollar with the value of money represented as cents and with decimals. Students show how to pay for items with a specific value as well as add values together on the last page.
