Gobble up Creativity

In this lesson, students will not only enjoy the humorous tale of a turkey trying to avoid becoming Thanksgiving dinner but also get a chance to apply their creativity by designing disguises for their own turkeys.

Begin by reading Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano as a class. Discuss the story's themes of problem-solving and creativity, and ask students to share their favorite parts.

Explain to students that they will be creating a disguise to help their turkeys avoid detection, just like in the story. Assign the Turkey Design activity to get students started.

Students can experiment with different colors, patterns, stickers, and backgrounds to make their turkeys truly unrecognizable.

Encourage students to create a character name for their disguised turkeys and write a short description of their turkey's new identity, including hobbies, interests, and backstory.

Provide students with an opportunity to share their creations with the class. They can present their disguised turkeys and explain the inspiration behind their designs.
