Decomposer's Delight

In order for energy to flow successfully in an ecosystem, every living and nonliving thing must coexist. From producers like plants, to food eating consumers, right down to the decomposers that break down dead organisms, each serve an important role in the cycle of life.

Assign the Decomposer Comic template to have students explain how worms, slugs, and mushrooms help the flow of energy in an ecosystem.

In this activity, students use their knowledge of decomposers to create a fun comic creating dialogue that shows how each decomposer breaks down organisms into smaller particles and releases new compounds to benefit the environment.
